Transcript

In the second half of the 19th century, Venetians joined the parts of a goblet with a glue bit that was cleverly disguised. Here, a small amount of glass is added to the tip of the stem. Another small amount of glass is added to the tip of the bowl of the goblet. The stem is brought back into position. The two are joined. Then, using the jacks, the glass, still soft, is carefully sculpted to form an hourglass shape. One punty is broken free. The glue bit is cooled to stiffen it, and the goblet is broken free of the punty.
